How English Changed My Life

Let me take you back to where it all started: a young girl with big dreams but stuck in her little corner of the world. Yep, that was me. Back then, English felt like this impossible mountain to climb, one of those school subjects that you just study for exams and then forget. Little did I know, it would become the key to unlocking some of the most exciting adventures of my life.

Fast forward to today, and here I am, writing this with so much gratitude for the English skills I once took for granted. Over the years, English has been my passport to global opportunities. I've made friends from every corner of the world and have been lucky enough to participate in international programs that completely changed my perspective on life.

One of my most memorable experiences was joining the Winter Course Program in Germany. I still remember walking into a room full of strangers from different countries, all speaking English to communicate. It wasn’t just about learning together; it was about sharing cultures, ideas, and stories. Germany made me realise how powerful English is—not just as a language but as a tool for connection.

Then there was the Young European Council in the European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium. Imagine discussing big ideas in one of the world’s most important institutions. I got to voice my opinions and actually be heard. None of that would’ve been possible without English.

And don’t even get me started on my time in Australia during the Youth Leadership Homestay Program. I stayed with an amazing host family who made me feel at home. We keep in touch until now.

Most recently, I had the incredible chance to attend a short course in Estonia called The Democracy Defenders Accelerators. It was like stepping into a whole new world of activism, innovation, and leadership. Again, English was the bridge that helped me absorb the experience, build friendships, and return home with fresh ideas.

But it’s not just about me and my experiences. I’ve always wanted to share what I’ve learned with others. Teaching has become one of my biggest passions, not just professionally but also as a way of giving back. Here in Bali, I volunteer to teach English to locals who might not have access to formal classes. It’s my way of saying, “Hey, this skill changed my life, and it can change yours too.” Watching them learn and grow reminds me of my own journey and why this language matters so much.

English is more than just a language for me, it’s a superpower. It’s opened doors to places I never dreamed of, brought incredible people into my life, and helped me contribute to the world in ways I never thought possible. So, if you’re still struggling with it or feel like giving up, trust me, keep going. You never know what doors it might open for you, too.

Here’s to more adventures, more connections, and hopefully inspiring more people to see how life-changing English can be. 😊
