Ahojte, volám sa Martin a dnes by som chcel rozprávať o členoch pre geografické názvy. V angličtine požívame niektoré geografické názvy s členom a bez člena a teda nám neostáva nič iné len sa naučiť naspamäť ("by heart") kedy člen použijeme a kedy nie. Let´s get into it!

Nepoužívame žiaden člen pre:

1) Jazerá - Lakes (only water body that we use without article) : We visited Lake Geneva.

! exception : Skupiny jazier - Groups of lakes : eg the Great Lakes

2) Kopce - Mountains: I saw Mount Fuji from the aeroplane.

3) Kontinenty - Continents: She loves living in Asia.

4) Ostrovy - Islands: Bali is popular with Australian tourists.

5) Väčšina krajín - Most countries: She travelled to Chile last year. (But: The USA / the United States, the Netherlands, the Philippines, the United Kingdom / the UK.)

6) Kraje,regíony, provincie - Counties, states, provinces, regions: They live in California.

7) Mestá, dediny - Cities, towns, villages: He stayed in Paris for a week last year.

Islands: Bali is popular with Australian tourists.

8) Ulice - Streets : Broad Street

Používame 'the' pre:

1) Rieky - Rivers: The River Nile flows through Egypt.

2) Pohoria - Mountain ranges : We ski in the Alps every year.

3) Púšte - Deserts: She travelled across the Sahara.

4) Oceány a moria - Oceans and seas: We sailed around the Mediterranean.

5) Súostrovia - Groups of islands: They went to the Canary Islands

6) Geografické územia, svetové strany - Geographical areas (the East, the Midwest)

7) Poloostrovy - Peninsulas ( the Balkan Peninsula, the Apennine Peninsula )

8) Skupiny jazier - Groups of lakes (the Great Lakes)

9) Geografické body - Points on the globe (the Equator, the North Pole)
